What can I say, this year started perfectly. Santa was a little bit late – but still – it was worth waiting for. Welcome home NV16 🙂
What you can see here, is fully refurbished GeForce 2 Ultra 64MB + TV out. You can`t even imagine the time and effort I had to sacrifice to get my hands on this baby. It was the last missing piece of my GeForce 2 family and a final element of a very old project of mine. I hope to present to you soon, one of the best builds I have created in my mind in the recent years. This is how the Family reunion looks like 🙂
From the upper left you can see:
- GeForce 2 GTS
- GeForce 2 PRO
- GeForce 2 ULTRA
- GeForce 2 Ti
A lot of testing was done, and many cards were used but the conclusion was simple. There is no match for the Asus V7700ULTRA`s processing unit 🙂 It truly deserves proper respect in terms of performance.
Not a bad company, right ? 🙂 After all, in the time when GeForce 3 family was already announced, and the Ti version of NV15 chip was on sale, GeForce 2 Ultra still performed better than all of them in AAA titles without heavy shader operations. In 3DMark 2000, Ultra scored over 300 points more than GeForce 3 Ti500 which is astonishing. Of course, in 3DMark 2001 where there is a partial test based only on hardware pixel and vertex shader operations, it looses quite a lot ( still crushing GeForce 4 MX 440 which is 2 years younger though ). Take a look at this gang: GeForce 2 Ti, VooDoo5 5500 and GeForce 2 Ultra. Nice way to spend over 1000$ back in the day.
During the free time after Christmas, I`ve also done some more cleaning and testing. Here is a nice pair of interesting GPU`s – the Ti200 and Ti500 from GeForce 3 family.
But their time is yet to come, now my effort is focused around the end-of-millenium period.
