After completing the GeForce 3 lineup I naturally started to search for the successors. As we all know GeForce 4 family received Ti nomenclature after the very successful GeForce 2 Ti card. But this time Ti trade mark was present in all consumer desktop PC cards. Best and top-of-the line card for year 2002 was GeForce 4 Ti4600 – the NV25 chip. 300 MHz of raw compute power alongside with 128 MB off DDR 650 MHz memory chips and doubled shader unit of the predecessor made the dream work ๐ Of course, one particular Asus model caught my eye few years ago.
The Asus V8480 ULTRA was available with two different cooling solutions. First, and most common was a standard (as I call it) “fish” cooler covering only the area of the GPU. I was looking for this special edition for some time. Advanced cooler not only covers the GPU but also the memory. Since it is a double sided memory design PCB it also has a cooper backplate ! The whole cooler is also made of cooper to maximize thermal performance.
Chip itself is made similar to the ones we know from GeForce 3 family and GeForce 2 Ti.
Most advanced card from the 4th series was GeForce 4 Ti4800 – NV28. It was year younger, and was very similar to NV25 but was upgraded with 8x AGP support. And it`s also very rare since the differences were marginal. Nevertheless, what is crucial to me is the fact that another important part for the 2002 build is under my roof, last stop the CPU.. ๐
Hey Jake,
